since the 1950s turkey realizes rapid urbanization. especially the pulsating metropolitan area istanbul is irrestistible attractive to immigrants. the associated growth, mainly stimulated in the fringes of istanbul, bears ecological, social and economical challenges.

it is therefore all the more important how economic development, increasing population growth and ecological interests could be balanced in the future. more and more the persistant growth of istanbul puts exploitive pressure on existing agricultural areas and water reservoirs. transformation within the city such as reliable political grounds for socially acceptable urban growth get increasingly important.

against this background, innovative, standardized concepts for energy-efficient housing for people of low income will be developed. the adaptability of housing structures, which should be able to respond to specific circumstances, is of crutial importance: the more structures are adaptable to local conditions, the longer they will exist in their sourrounding.

in der türkei findet seit den 50er jahren eine rasante verstädterung statt, insbesondere die metropole istanbul hat eine unwiderstehliche anziehungskraft auf zuwanderer. das damit verbundene wachstum, welches sich vornehmlich in den randgebieten der stadt abspielt, bringt ökologische, soziale und ökonomische herausforderungen mit sich.

umso wichtiger wird die frage, wie wirtschaftliche entwicklungen, das ansteigende bevölkerungswachstum und ökologische interessen zukünftig in balance bleiben können. vorhandene agrarflächen und wasserreservoire geraten durch das wachstum der metropole zunehmend unter verwertungsdruck. transformationen der stadt und grundlagen für sozialverträgliches städtisches wachstum werden immer dringlicher.

vor diesem hintergrund werden innovative, standardisierbare konzepte für energieeffiziente wohnstrukturen für einkommensschwache bevölkerungssgruppen entwickelt. die adaptierbarkeit der strukturen, die auf die jeweiligen gegebenheiten vor ort reagieren können, ist von besonderer bedeutung: je mehr sich die struktur an die lokalen bedingungen anpassen kann, desto langfristiger wird sie in ihrem umfeld bestehen können.
