the city centre of wunsiedel is currently undergoing a tremendous upheaval which revaluates it`s significance within the city. at the moment, the historical city core is marked by numerous vacant properties. wholly isolated interventions into the existing building substance won`t be able to tackle actual requirements induced by substantial changes. furthermore, the city of wunsiedel needs a customized development strategie that takes up the existing potential of the city. wunsiedel`s city profile needs to be easier to understand and has to be communicated more clearly in the future. as a result, the core city will be able to return to public awareness.

within the historical city centre of wunsiedel large unused areas are available to start urban redensification. demand will follow when interesting urban structures will be developed successively and thus urban life gets more and more attractive. an overarching design concept steers the development process of the quarter and communicates the particularity of the city to citizens and visitors. more specifically, the design concept is a reference to europes greatest rock labyrinth, which is located in the rural region of wunsiedel.

der stadtkern wunsiedels ist geprägt von einer umbruchsphase, die aktuell den stellenwert der stadt neu bewertet. die altstadt ist von immensen leerständen gezeichnet. vereinzelte punktuelle eingriffe in den gebäudebestand werden dem derzeitigen bedeutungswandel nicht gerecht. vielmehr braucht wunsiedel eine entwicklungsstrategie, die passgenau an das vorhandene potential der stadt anknüpft. das profil wunsiedels muss zukünftig verständlicher sein und deutlicher kommuniziert werden. dadurch kann die ortsmitte wunsiedels wieder in die wahrnehmung von einwohnern und besuchern zurückkehren.

unmittelbar in der altstadt wunsiedels sind ungenutzte flächen vorhanden, die nachverdichtungen mit innerstädtischem wohnen zulassen. nachfrage wird sich dann bilden, wenn sukzessive eine urbane dichte geschaffen wird, die ein leben in der stadt wieder attraktiv macht. ein übergeordnetes leitbild lenkt den entwicklungsprozess des quartiers, andererseits kommuniziert es die besonderheit wunsiedels gegenüber einwohnern und besuchern. das leitbild ist eine referenz an europas größtes felsenlabyrinth, das sich im umland von wunsiedel befindet.
