experimental housing / mönchengladbach-rheydt

the city center of mönchengladbach-rheydt will be complemented by a diversified residential area for different user groups: students, single parents with children, senior citizens, couples and flat-mates, younger and older singles as well as professionals with temporary residence will use the building with the central courtyard equally.

the organization of the building is defined by density and diversity: first of all we intend to create a  balanced mixture of vital meeting places and sheltered areas offering privacy. a wooden deck with a courtyard tree marks the center of the complex. from this point results a natural circulation for the different user groups: people meet intentionally or by chance that the house does not remain anonymous.

the proportioning of the building volume maximizes the natural sunlight in the courtyard. every level gets its own roof terrace and thus yields a dense web of public and private open spaces.

the tight organization of the residential modules facilitates maximum flexibility: the single apartments for students can easily be converted into two-room apartments with only little modification required. the sanitary facilities of the modules remain unaffected by conversions.

experimenteller wohnungsbau / mönchengladbach-rheydt

im stadtzentrum von mönchengladbach-rheydt entsteht ein durchmischtes wohnquartier für unterschiedliche nutzergruppen: studierende, alleinerziehende mit kindern, senioren, paare und wohngemeinschaften, jüngere und ältere singles sowie berufstätige mit temporärem aufenthalt werden das gebäude mit zentralem innenhof nutzen.

dichte und vielfalt bestimmen die organisation des gebäudes: eine ausgewogene mischung von lebendigen treffpunkten und ruhigen rückzugsräumen ist beabsichtigt. ein holz-deck mit hofbaum bildet auf natürliche weise das zentrum des hofes. von hier aus ergibt sich eine selbstverständliche zirkulation für die unterschiedlichen nutzergruppen. man begegnet sich gezielt oder beiläufig, das haus bleibt nicht anonym.

die gliederung der baumassen ermöglicht eine großzügige belichtung des hofes. verteilt auf mehrere geschosse werden den wohneinheiten dachterrassen vorgelagert, wodurch ein vielfältiges angebot an privaten und öffentlichen freiflächen entsteht.

die stringente organisation der wohneinheiten fördert die flexibilität des gebäudes: die einzelapartments der studierenden können mit wenigen eingriffen zu zwei - zimmer - wohnungen umgebaut werden. die haustechnische andienung der einheiten bleibt von den umbauten unberührt.
