the site for publicly subsidized housing is located on the edge of the municipality of fischen i. allgäu. it is characterised by the highly frequented district road in the north, by a distinctive meadow slope in the south and not at least by the surrounding panoramic mountain landscape. our design for the residential complex arranges two three-storey wooden buildings onto a massive podium zone. towards the street the space between these two buildings is bordered by a single-storey outbuilding, functioning as noise and privacy protection. within this protected area private and semi-public open areas are located, slightly vertically offsets zone them appropriately.
the materiality of the buildings, mainly wood, plays an important role for the design. only the podium zone and the single-storey outbuilding are made of concrete. the residential buildings are conceptualized as compact volumes with highly insulated building envelopes. all structural elements of these two buildings are made of timber, where it is technically possible, wooden surfaces will be visible. simple assemly works, a quick setting up and a high degree of standardisation will imply low construction costs.

das planungsgrundstück für die kommunale wohnanlage am ortsrand von fischen im allgäu ist geprägt von der stark frequentierten kreisstrasse im norden, von einem markanten wiesenhang im süden sowie vom panorama der umliegenden berglandschaft. darauf nimmt unser entwurf bezug und ordnet zwei dreigeschossige baukörper in holzbauweise auf einer massiven sockelzone an. zur straße hin wird der raum zwischen den gebäuden mit einem eingeschossigen nebenraumgebäude gefasst, welches als schall- und sichtschutz wirkt. in diesem geschützten bereich werden die privaten und halb-öffentlichen freiräume leicht höhenversetzt zueinander angeordnet, wodurch die aussenanlagen bedarfsgerecht zoniert werden.
die materialität der baustoffe, vorwiegend holz, spielt für die gestaltung eine wichtige rolle. lediglich die erdberührte sockelzone und das nebenraumgebäude sind in stahlbeton vorgesehen. die wohngebäude sind als kompakte volumen mit hochgedämmter gebäudehülle konzipiert. alle konstruktiven elemente der wohngebäude werden in holz ausgeführt, sofern bautechnisch möglich, werden die holzoberflächen sichtbar belassen. einfache montagearbeiten, schnelles aufrichten und ein hoher standardisierugsgrad ermöglichen eine wirtschaftliche bauweise.
